BNP acting chairman Tarique Rahman has strongly condemned the lathi-charge incident of law enforcement officers on the president of the People’s Rights Council and former VP of DUCSU, Nurul Haque.
Tarique Rahman has wished for Nurul Haque’s speedy recovery. He has called on the interim government to conduct a legal investigation into the incident.
Tarique Rahman said this in a post on his verified Facebook page at 2:45 am on Friday, Bangladesh time.
Tarique Rahman wrote in the Facebook post, ‘BNP strongly condemns the attack on Nurul Haque Nur and the violent incident that took place in Kakrail. We are in a very delicate period of democratic transition. The first step of which is the national election. Collectively, we must ensure that destabilizing incidents like today’s do not happen again and that the path of democratic progress is not obstructed.’
The BNP acting chairman also wrote on Facebook that pro-democracy parties, including the BNP and its allies, must maintain restraint and tolerance. The true spirit of last year’s mass uprising must be given priority. The country must be brought out of the current unstable situation, he added.
Tarique Rahman wrote that if Bangladesh wants to move forward, it should remain vigilant against this culture of mob-terrorism, uphold the rule of law and build a peaceful and stable country. Only by empowering the people through democratic means and ensuring justice, equality and dignity for all can we succeed as a united nation.
