The Houthi government has confirmed that Ahmed al-Rahawi, the prime minister of the Houthi rebels in Yemen, has been killed in an Israeli airstrike. Israel carried out an airstrike on the Yemeni capital Sanaa last Thursday. Ahmed al-Rahawi and several ministers were killed in the attack. The group said this in a statement on Saturday.

Ahmed al-Rahawi had been serving as prime minister of the Houthi-led government since August 2024. The statement said the attack occurred during a workshop organized to evaluate the government’s annual performance.

The Israeli army attacked the Yemeni capital Sanaa last Thursday. The attack came as tensions in the region increased due to Israel’s war in Gaza.

In a statement, the Israeli army said that its forces attacked “a military target of the Houthi terrorist government” in the Sanaa area.

The Houthis have been attacking Israeli and Western ships in the Red Sea and Gulf of Aden in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. In response, Israel has launched a series of attacks on Yemen in recent months.

The Houthis have repeatedly said that such Israeli attacks will not deter them from carrying out military operations in support of the Palestinians.

Four days before Thursday’s attack, Israeli airstrikes in Sanaa killed 10 people and wounded more than 90, health officials said.

The Israeli military said it had struck several Houthi military installations on Sunday, including the presidential palace.
