Earthquakes were felt in various places in the country including the capital. The earthquake was felt around 5:15 pm today, Sunday.
Meteorological Department sources said that the earthquake’s origin was in the Indian state of Assam, 380 kilometers from Dhaka.
Earthquake expert Professor Humayun Akhtar told Prothom Alo today that the magnitude of the earthquake at the origin was 5.6 on the Richter scale. The origin is between the Assam Valley and the Himalayas, far from Assam’s capital Guwahati. This is a medium to heavy earthquake.
Officer-in-charge of the Earthquake Observation and Research Center of the Bangladesh Meteorological Department, Md. Rubaiyat Kabir, told Prothom Alo today that we have records that an earthquake of magnitude 5.6 initially occurred.
