US President Donald Trump wants to sue the influential US media outlet The New York Times. He will sue the newspaper for $15 billion in defamation on charges of slander. Trump confirmed the matter in a post on his social media platform Truth Social on Monday. British media outlet BBC reported this news.

In the post, Trump wrote, “The New York Times has been lying, slandering and smearing me for a long time. They have been given a chance for so long, it must end now!”

He specifically mentioned that the Times supported Kamala Harris in the 2024 presidential election. He said that the newspaper has become a “mouthpiece for the far-left Democratic Party.”

Trump also said that the lawsuit is being filed in Florida. Florida is a Republican stronghold. The BBC has contacted the newspaper for comment.

He has long been dissatisfied with the left-leaning media, which has negatively portrayed the Trump presidency.

In the post, Trump expressed his anger, saying, “The support for Kamala Harris was printed right in the middle of the front page of the New York Times, which has never been seen before!”

He also complained in the post that other media outlets and TV programs are also tarnishing him by intricately altering documents and images.

This is not the first time that the US president has sought to sue the New York Times.

Trump had previously sued the New York Times. In 2023, the court dismissed that lawsuit for $ 100 million. Because, according to the judge, the allegations in the lawsuit were unfounded in terms of constitutional law. Trump alleged that the New York Times and his niece Mary Trump had secretly planned to collect his personal tax records. Trump was a former president at the time.

Trump filed the lawsuit against the New York Times in 2021. It was about his Pulitzer Prize-winning reporting in the New York Times on taxes and finances.

Trump also lost another defamation case in 2023. He also tried to sue CNN. He alleged that CNN had compared him to Adolf Hitler. He had defamed him and sought $475 million in damages. But the court dismissed that case as well.
