A mother and son were killed in a bus crash in Dinarpur College area of Nabiganj upazila on Dhaka-Sylhet highway. The accident occurred around 11:30 am on Wednesday (September 17) in the area adjacent to Dinarpur College in Gajnaipur union.
The deceased are Shamima Akhter (45), wife of Syed Ali of Sagardighi Paschimpar village of Baniachang upazila, and their four-year-old son Taukir Ahmed.
Police said Syed Ali was on his way to Sunaru village of Nabiganj upazila with his family to visit a sick relative. A speeding Sylhet-bound Saudia Paribahan bus ran over the mother and son while they were crossing the highway. After the accident, the bus lost control and fell into a nearby ditch. Traffic on the highway was blocked for about an hour. Later, on receiving information, Sherpur Highway Police reached the spot and normalized the situation.
Sherpur Highway Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Abu Taher Dewan confirmed the death of two people in the accident.
