Bangladesh Satellite Service May Be Disrupted, BSCL Says

Bangladesh Satellite-1-based broadcasting operations may be temporarily disrupted for some time every day from September 29 to October 6 due to solar disturbance.

This information was given by Bangladesh Satellite Company Limited (BSCL) Public Relations Spokesperson Omar Haider in a statement on Wednesday (September 17).

The statement said that solar disturbance is a common celestial event for geostationary satellites, which occurs twice a year. As a result, there is a possibility of temporary disruption in satellite-based broadcasting operations. In the case of Bangladesh Satellite-1, there may be disruption in broadcasting operations for some time every day from September 29 to October 6.

According to the possible schedule, the broadcasting activities on Bangladesh Satellite-1 may be disrupted as follows: September 29 from 9:35 am to 9:38 am (total 3 minutes), September 30 from 9:32 am to 9:41 am (total 9 minutes), October 1 from 9:30 am to 9:42 am (total 12 minutes), October 2 from 9:29 am to 9:42 am (total 13 minutes), October 3 from 9:29 am to 9:42 am (total 13 minutes), October 4 from 9:29 am to 9:41 am (total 12 minutes), October 5 from 9:29 am to 9:40 am (total 11 minutes) and October 6 from 9:30 am to 9:38 am (total 8 minutes).

The notification further stated that BSCL will carefully monitor the solar anomalies. BSCL is currently providing broadcasting and telecommunication services to various domestic and foreign organizations using Bangladesh Satellite-1 (BS-1).
