Television’s popular face Priya Marathe is no more. After battling cancer for a long time, she breathed her last at 4 am on Sunday at her residence in Mira Road, Mumbai. She was only 38 years old. Her husband, Swami Shantanu Moge, is also an actor; he is a familiar face in the role of Chhatrapati Shivaji on Marathi television. He was a popular face for small screen viewers all over India, and he is also known in Bangladesh.

Priya made her Marathi debut in 2005 in the Marathi serial ‘Ya Sukhano Yaa’. After that, she worked in the long-running serial ‘Char Divas Sasuche’. She entered Bollywood from Marathi in 2008, by acting in Milind Uk’s film ‘Hamne Jeena Sikh Liya’.

After entering Hindi television, Priya gained the most recognition in the popular serial ‘Pavitra Rishta’ produced by Ekta Kapoor. There, she played the roles of Barsha Deshpande and Jhumri. The serial also featured the late Sushant Singh Rajput and Ankita Lokhande.

Priya’s co-star Usha Nadkarni expressed her grief and said, “I heard that she had cancer. Later, she underwent surgery and returned to work. However, I recently came to know that her condition is not good. The last few days, her husband had refused to visit us. Maybe she was ashamed that her hair had fallen out due to the treatment. It is very painful. How can someone leave at such a young age? Can God be so cruel?”

Usha Nadkarni also said, “Priya was always smiling, mixed with everyone. She got married a few years ago and bought a house on loan. It is good that she did not have children, otherwise who knows what would have happened to them today.”

Apart from acting, Priya was also a stand-up comedian. In 2010, she participated in the show ‘Comedy Circus Ke Superstars’. Later, she acted in ‘Uttaran’ (2011-12), ‘Bare Achhe Lage Hai’ (2012) and ‘Saath Nirvana Saathiya’ (2017).
Priya Marathe also made a place in the hearts of the audience on Hindi and Marathi television. Her sudden death at the age of just 38 left the entertainment world in shock.
