Earlier, on Thursday afternoon, the leaders and activists of the All-Party Joint Committee had announced a strike on Sunday demanding the restoration of four seats in Bagerhat. However, instead of carrying out the siege program today, a sit-in program was held in front of the offices of the District Election Officer and the Deputy Commissioner. Later, the leaders and activists of the All-Party Joint Committee announced a new program.
On July 30, an initial proposal was made to reduce one of the four seats in Bagerhat to three seats in the upcoming 13th National Parliament election. Since then, the people of Bagerhat have started the movement. The people of Bagerhat participated in the hearing of the Election Commission demanding the restoration of four seats. Even then, on September 4, the Election Commission published the final gazette, only changing the boundaries and maintaining three seats. The leaders and activists of the All-Party Joint Committee said that this seat arrangement of the Election Commission has ignored the demands of the people.
According to the final gazette, Bagerhat-1 (Bagerhat Sadar-Chitalmari-Mollahat), Bagerhat-2 (Fakirhat-Rampal-Mongla) and Bagerhat-3 (Kachua-Morelganj-Sharankhola). Elections were being held in 4 constituencies for a long time. The boundaries at that time were – Bagerhat-1 (Chitalmari-Mollahat-Fakirhat), Bagerhat-2 (Bagerhat Sadar-Kachua), Bagerhat-3 (Rampal-Mongla) and Bagerhat-4 (Morelganj-Sharankhola).
