Mirza Md. Tarek, a student of the 2022-23 academic year of the Accounting Department of Maulana Bhashani University of Science and Technology (Mavabiprob), has been expelled by the university administration for three semesters on charges of being involved in women’s scandals and violent incidents. He has also been fined Tk 50,000.
According to university sources, on March 19 last year (11 Ramadan), Tarek was seen in an objectionable situation with a female student of the Mathematics Department in a bachelor’s mess on the campus. When she protested later, Tarek, along with 20-25 Chhatra League activists, attacked the victim student on the night of March 20. The student was seriously injured and mentally stressed.
Although written complaints were filed several times after the incident, the previous administration did not take any action for a long time. When the allegations were proven true, he was expelled for three semesters and fined as per the decision of the 250th meeting of the University Board of Regents.
It is known that Tarek was involved in Chhatra League politics at the beginning of his campus life. In addition to showing dominance in the campus and residential halls, he was also active in various campaigns of the Awami League. However, after the mass uprising of 2024, he suddenly became active in Chhatra Dal politics.
Recently, when a new committee was formed in Mavabipravi through the council of 73 voters of Chhatra Dal, Tarek’s voter number was 51. Even after the expulsion order came into effect on September 9, he was seen participating in the Chhatra Dal’s pamphlet distribution program in various halls of the university on September 13.
Students say that even after joining Chhatra Dal from Chhatra League, Tarek used to show dominance on campus and was involved in various irregularities. They welcomed the administration’s decision after being punished in the women’s scandal.
It is worth noting that it is known that entry into the campus is prohibited until the expulsion is over. Any act that violates discipline will result in permanent expulsion.
