A delegation from Daffodil International University’s Journalism, Media and Communication (JMC) Department held separate meetings with representatives from Google and YouTube at Google Asia Pacific headquarters in Singapore on Thursday to forge an institutional partnership.
The first meeting was held with the Google News Initiative team. Adil Farhan, representative of the Google News Partnership Project; Aftab Hossain, Head of the Journalism, Media and Communication Department of Daffodil International University; and Associate Professor Abdul Kabil Khan were present.
The two sides discussed in detail the possible collaboration with the Google News Partnership Project to organize seminars, internships and master classes.
The JMC delegation mentioned that their department has already integrated Google’s specific AI tools and various Google resources related to digital journalism into the curriculum, so that students can ensure the use of modern technology for the rapidly changing media.
In this context, Aftab Hossain said, “At this juncture of media and technology, our collaboration with the Google News Initiative will open new horizons for students. The integration of AI tools in our course curriculum proves that we are committed to preparing our students for the future.”
The delegation then held another meeting with YouTube. The meeting was attended by Abu Saleh, YouTube Strategic Partnership Representative at Google Asia Pacific Headquarters. Both sides agreed to work on a joint collaborative initiative to deliver incubation projects, community guidelines and digital safety resources to the field for young content creators.
Regarding the partnership with Google, Adil Farhan said, “This kind of collaboration with a journalism department of a university in Bangladesh is very important for us. We hope that Google’s joint initiative with Daffodil International University will have a positive impact in raising awareness on issues such as fact-checking and AI tools in modern journalism.”
It is worth noting that Daffodil International University is a strategic partner in the ‘Information Credibility and AI Literacy Training’ program launched in Bangladesh by Google and managed by Prothom Alo.
