A transformer explosion has caused a fire in the main power grid line in Satkhira. This has disrupted power supply across the district.
The incident took place in the Binapota area of Sadar Upazila at around 11:10 am on Saturday (September 20).
The fire service said that a transformer on the 132/33 kV power grid line in the Binapota area of Sadar Upazila suddenly exploded and caught fire at around 11:10 am on Saturday. Upon receiving the information, two units of the Satkhira Fire Service reached the spot and brought the fire under control after about an hour of effort. However, no lives were lost.
Meanwhile, the power outage has caused extreme suffering in the city and rural areas. Mills, factories, businesses and daily activities are being disrupted.
Satkhira Grid Line In-charge Russell Islam told Kalbela that the power supply to the entire district has been cut off due to the transformer explosion. It is hoped that the power supply will be normalized by the afternoon.
In this regard, Satkhira Fire Service Warehouse Inspector Nurul Islam said, “Initially, it is believed that the fire started from transformer overheating or an electrical short circuit.”
