During the July Uprising, Tipu Sultan was staying near Sheikh Borhanuddin Postgraduate College in the capital on August 5 last year. Ismamul Haque was next to him. At that time, when the police shot at Tipu, it entered Ismamul’s stomach and exited through his back. Ismamul died while undergoing treatment.

Tipu Sultan said these words in his statement at the International Crimes Tribunal-1 today, Thursday. He gave this statement as the 12th witness in the case of crimes against humanity committed in the Chankharpul area of ​​the capital during the July Uprising.

Md. Tipu Sultan works at a cloth shop in the capital’s New Market. In his statement, he said that he participated in the long march program that day from 11 am to 11:30 am on August 5 last year. At one point, he heard that his elder brother Yakub from his area had been shot in front of Sohag Hotel on Nazim Uddin Road. He went there and saw that Yakub had been shot in the stomach and had exited through his back. A man named Zahid took off his T-shirt and tied it to Yakub’s bullet wound. Later, the protesters took Yakub to Mitford Hospital. Later, he heard that Yakub had died.

Tipu Sultan, mentioning that he later stayed near Sheikh Borhanuddin College, said in his statement that the police kept shooting and Borhanuddin came to the gate of the college. When the police shot at him, the bullet hit Ismamul, who was next to him, in the stomach and exited through his back. Ismamul later died while undergoing treatment at Dhaka Medical College Hospital.

Md. Moniruzzaman, a supplier of goods to the Navy, testified as the 13th witness in the case. He lives in Chankharpul. Moniruzzaman said in his statement that on August 5 last year, he and his son joined the movement in the Khalifapatti area of ​​the capital. They were moving towards Chankharpool. Then the police opened fire on them. At that time, a protester named Junaid, who was in front of him, was shot in the head by the police. Three to four protesters took Junaid to Mitford Hospital. They learned that Junaid had died that afternoon.

Six people were killed in the Chankharpool area on August 5 last year. Formal charges have been framed against eight accused, including former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, in a case of crimes against humanity committed in this incident. Thirteen witnesses have so far given their statements in the case.

The accused in the case include former Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) Commissioner Habibur Rahman, former Joint Commissioner Sudip Kumar Chakraborty, former Additional Deputy Commissioner of Ramna region Shah Alam Md. Akhtarul Islam and former assistant commissioner of Ramna area Mohammad Imrul are absconding. And the other four accused are under arrest. They are former inspector of Shahbagh police station Md. Arshad Hossain, former constable Md. Sujan Hossain, Imaz Hossain and Md. Nasirul Islam. They were produced before the tribunal today.
